The Volkswagen ID.R holds speed records at Pikes Peak, Goodwood, the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, and now Tianmen Mountain in China. The 500kW (680 PS) ID.R is powered by two electric motors and supports Volkswagen’s electromobility offensive in China. This onboard footage gives you a feel for Romain Dumas’ impressive drive up the 6.78 mile (10.906km) ‘Tianmen Shan Big Gate Road’ in 7:38.585 – a drive which included 99 hairpins, 164 braking manoeuvres, and a top speed of 135mph (218km/h)
