SKF has developed a new robust angular steering column bearing for passenger cars and light trucks, in particular luxury cars and future vehicles such as EVs.
Through low and constant friction torque, better vibration absorption, and reduced noise levels, this innovative solution gives a distinctly higher level of steering comfort, says SKF.
The design of the steering column bearing replaces the standard wavy spring with a new patented rubber solution. This has resulted in a considerable reduction of the torque variation and contributed to a smoother steering feeling.
It features a 20% reduction on average torque, 80% reduction on torque variation, a decrease in noise generation (-7/8 DbA), a new patented bearing design, an optimized pre-load system, and it can be customized according to customer requirements for conductivity, bore shape, and dimension.
