NIO, a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has implemented VI-grade’s VI-WorldSim integrated graphic environment, which will complement its existing driving simulation setup, comprising a DiM150 DYNAMIC driving simulator and VI-CarRealTime, a real-time vehicle simulation environment.
According to VI-grade, the VI-WorldSim package will expand the capabilities of NIO’s DiM150 simulator, installed at the company’s headquarters in Shanghai, adding realistic, multi-agent AI traffic behaviour and sensor fusion. NIO will mainly use VI-WorldSim for ADAS and AV development. The NIO team will also loop in an extra desktop simulator, to create a multi-simulator setup, allowing two drivers on two different driving simulators to simultaneously operate in the same scenario. This co-simulation is largely used to study the interaction of ADAS controllers in both random and complex scenarios.
“We are confident that our current driving simulation setup will significantly help us to make ADAS systems safer and improve their overall functionality in the future,” said Danilo Teobaldi, VP of vehicle engineering at NIO.
