Ӧhlins Racing, a subsidiary of Tenneco that supplies racing, rally and off-road suspension technologies, has become the exclusive provider of shock absorbers for the NASCAR Cup Series “Next Gen” car platform scheduled to debut in 2022. Each team will be supplied with a five-way adjustable version of the Ӧhlins TTR coil-over damper, as widely used in IndyCar Series racing, as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The TTR dampers were selected for the Next Gen platform following development and testing work conducted over the past two years by Ӧhlins engineers and NASCAR representatives. The exclusive Cup Series TTR damper enables teams to dial-in damping characteristics quickly and accurately across a broad range of settings, to address changing track conditions.
The Next Gen platform, which will be used by all three Cup Series car manufacturers – Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota – includes several design and construction enhancements designed to help increase safety and performance, enable faster chassis setup and reduce costs for carmakers and teams. The Next Gen car was unveiled earlier this month and will make its racing debut at the season-opening Daytona 500 on 20 February, 2022.
“It is a tremendous honour for Öhlins and Tenneco to join the elite technology providers supporting this revolutionary new racecar,” said Henrik Johansson, vice president and general manager, Tenneco Advanced Suspension Technologies.
