ClearMotion, a company developing software-defined chassis, has secured a launch customer with a production order from NIO, the China-based global electric vehicle (EV) company. The production order is for three million units of ClearMotion1, ClearMotion’s patented high-bandwidth active suspension technology, which will be fitted to next-generation NIO vehicles, beginning with upcoming flagship ET9 model.
The ClearMotion1 system is designed to adapt the vehicle to the road surface and effectively cancel out any unwanted motion, to create a more comfortable passenger experience, isolated from imperfections in the road surface.
The NIO contract sets ClearMotion up for an exciting 2024, following a successful 2023, in which it raised US$35 million and celebrated reaching over 500 patents in its intellectual property portfolio.
“When developing the cars of the future, we need to build them for the drivers and passengers of the future,” stated William Li, CEO of NIO. “The ClearMotion1 system delivers a fundamentally better in-cabin experience that is directly in line with what our customers desire when driving and charging their electric vehicle. I am thrilled to be the first manufacturer to bring it to market.”
