Maurizio Reggiani joins Eccentrica as advisor

The Eccentrica is a restomod based on the Lamborghini Diablo

Eccentrica has announced the appointment of Maurizio Reggiani, a well-known figure in automotive engineering, with over four decades of experience at Maserati, Bugatti, and latterly as CTO and vice president of motorsport at Lamborghini, as an advisor. In his role, Reggiani, who retired at the end of 2023, will provide strategic and technical guidance, foster innovation, and offer expert insights during the production phase of the Eccentrica – a restomod based on the Lamborghini Diablo.

“Welcoming Maurizio Reggiani to Eccentrica is a significant milestone for us, especially as we prepare to begin production,” said Emanuel Colombini, founder and president of Eccentrica, based in San Marino. “As we aim to establish a strong presence in the restomod arena, having the ability to tap Maurizio’s expertise will be invaluable. As the pioneer behind the modern-day supercar, his experience, technical prowess and forward-thinking approach will be critical in pushing our vision to new heights as we establish a lasting legacy within the automotive community.”

Reggiani stated, “I am excited to contribute to and encourage Eccentrica’s ambitious projects. Their blend of heritage and modern innovation is certainly inspiring, resulting in a bold approach to reshape the restomod industry. I look forward to helping realise their project and I am sure that Eccentrica’s work will strongly resonate with true car enthusiasts.”

The appointment of Reggiani comes as the company prepares for the global debut of the Eccentrica V12 at ‘The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering’, in California this August. The event will showcase the fully drivable vehicle (one of just 19) for the first time.

The original 5.7-litre naturally aspirated Lamborghini V12 engine has been modified with modern technologies, taking maximum power to 550HP at 7,000 rpm, and maximum torque to 600Nm at 6.500 giri/min.

The BorromeodeSilva Studio has gently restyled the Diablo, with the bodywork of the donor car replaced with lighter titanium and carbon fibre panels, which reduce the overall weight of the car to achieve a power-to-weight ratio of less than 2.9kg/hp. In the first virtual simulations, the setup achieved acceleration from 0 to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds, a top speed of 335km/h (208mph) and lateral acceleration in corners of 1.2g.

The car will be fitted with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R semi-slick tyres approved for the road, with the compound, the tyre structure and tread pattern optimised to handle track kerbs and road conditions. For example, the tread pattern is designed to favour stability in straight-line driving, short braking distances, and increased lateral grip.
