At Vehicle Dynamics Expo, exhibitor BWI Group revealed how new safety standards in the automotive industry – aping the type of approach common in aviation – are challenging Tier 1 suppliers.
The ability to meet standards such as ISO 26262 has already become a pre-requisite to win business with some OEMs, especially when a global program is involved, noted Martin Reder, BWI’s director of brake systems engineering.
On the product side, BWI had its latest DBC-1200 ESC system to present to visitors. Production starts at the end of 2012 and it’s one of several new such systems from the major suppliers to be launched almost in parallel; BWI believes its system majors on quietness, as well as meeting the OEMs’ ever-demanding cost and performance demands.
The show was pleased to welcome BWI Group’s president, Mr Wang, who visited to watch his company’s Open Technology Forum presentation on CV chassis design, and spent some time touring the exhibition halls.
