Vitesco Technologies, a supplier of drive and electrification technologies, is further expanding its axle drive business with its latest contract: a €2 billion deal to supply its latest EMR4 (Electronics Motor Reducer) axle drive to Hyundai Motor Group. The order was mentioned at Vitesco Technologies’ annual press conference in March, but the customer was not named. The highly integrated, three-in-one 400 V/160kW unit will be used by Hyundai Motor Group in its global B/C-segment electric vehicles.
The EMR4 builds upon the design of the EMR3 axle drive, with further optimisation measures including the use of new technologies to make it more efficient and powerful. The silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors in the inverter of the drive platform, for example, have played a significant role in the new model.
The scalability of the EMR4 axle drive design enables complete vehicle platforms and also different vehicle segments to be equipped with just one drive system. This is achieved by applying a consistently modular approach with well-defined interfaces and a design-for-manufacturing philosophy.
