City Transformer has unveiled the CT-2, a two-seater microcar with a 1+1 seating configuration, featuring a chassis with variable-width capabilities.
It can switch from a narrow City configuration to a wider Performance mode while driving. The former, ideal for slow traffic or parking, has a maximum width of no more than one meter, while the latter, with a width extending to 1.3 meters, enhances comfort and stability at higher speeds.
CT-2 is the first mass-production vehicle developed by City Transformer, an Israeli company founded in 2014 with the goal of industrializing the innovative concept of a variable-width microcar.
The first units of CT-2, with pre-orders already open, are expected to roll off the assembly lines by the end of 2026 and will be marketed in major European markets, including Italy.
Currently, the company is seeking support from Italian investors to form partnerships and complete its industrial plan.
CT-2 is the production version of CT-1 revealed in 2021 during the IAA, and the 2017 prototype that first demonstrated the feasibility of the founders’ concept at City Transformer.
Since then, the vehicle has undergone seven additional evolutionary steps, refining its technical aspects, style, and onboard technology.
CT-2 is just 2.5 meters long, 1.53 meters high, and its width varies from 1 to 1.3 meters depending on the configuration.
The vehicle has a wheelbase of 1.8 meters and short overhangs, maximizing the available space and creating a roomy and welcoming interior in compact dimensions, perfect for urban use, navigating traffic, and traveling on smoother roads.
The body, made of aluminum, features a modern and clean design with large glass surfaces, including two glass roof sections to increase light and visibility.
The front end has thin LED daytime running lights. The vertically developed rear lighting ensures efficient illumination and high safety without compromising the glass surfaces and the trunk opening. The large doors are complete with electrically opening window.
The steering wheel is an ergonomic hexagonal shape, housing controls for the onboard computer, cruise control, audio system, and phone connection.
Behind it is the instrument cluster, entrusted to a modern rectangular digital display. Lights, the pantograph wiper, and turn signals are gathered on classic stalks, while the drive control is housed in a convenient knob on the right side of the dashboard.
The driving mode is controlled by two knobs, mounted on both sides of the steering wheel, allowing for easy shifting between City and Performance modes.
The powertrain system includes a pair of motors mounted in the rear wheels. The nominal maximum power is 15 kW, about 20 horsepower, while the peak power during acceleration reaches 22 kW, 30 horsepower.
The top speed is 40 km/h in City mode, while in Performance mode, it can reach up to 90 km/h. The maximum turning diameter is just 8.5 meters, but only 8.2 meters are needed when the chassis is in narrow mode.
The 48V lithium battery has a classic Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) formulation and a capacity of 15 kWh. It can be fully recharged using a standard household power outlet, with a maximum charging power of 3.3 kW, allowing a full charge in 4 hours and 30 minutes.
This battery provides a maximum range of 180 km, which drops to 120 km when the air conditioning system is active. The air conditioning system includes heating as standard, while cooling is offered as an optional feature.
Available in two-seat passenger (1+1) or commercial (1+cargo zone) variants, the City Transformer CT-2 has a maximum cargo volume of 450 liters and a weight of 450 kg, increasing to 560 kg with battery.
The steel chassis and aluminum body ensure solidity and lightness, while the 15-inch wheels with 135/70 tires and disc brakes provide adequate performance and energy efficiency.
City Transformer will begin series production in the fourth quarter of 2026.
