EFS was founded in 2009 and has come to Vehicle Dynamics Expo to build awareness of its activities and meet potential new employees. A joint-venture between Gigatronik and Audi Electronics Venture GmbH, EFS undertakes chassis electronics projects, such as adaptive damping, ESC and electric steering work, for the Volkswagen Group.
The JV already has 120 staff on board but with what a company insider describes as “more projects than we can handle”, EFS plans to recruit an additional 20-50 people by the end of 2012. Designed to provide a speed of response that’s difficult to achieve in a large organization such as the VW Group – an attribute that’s particularly important in a constantly evolving area like electronics – this start-up is nonetheless expanding fast. New premises are on the cards before the end of 2013; the company plans to remain in Ingolstadt, but move to a larger, purpose-built facility that will also house laboratories and a workshop to reduce EFS’s current dependency on external test facilities.
