Nira Dynamics, a developer of automotive software, has developed a Tread Wear Indicator (TWI) to deliver real-time monitoring of tyre wear. The TWI does not require any additional hardware to be fitted to a vehicle, as it operates solely on the existing sensors fitted in the vehicle, reducing cost and maintenance.
The automotive industry is shifting from traditional vehicle service intervals to continuous, data-driven monitoring, and tyre health is an important factor. Tyre wear directly affects vehicle braking and handling, fuel efficiency, and environmental sustainability.
According to Nira, by continuously monitoring tread wear, the TWI provides early warnings that enable drivers to replace tyres before they reach a critical level of wear. For fleet operators, data from the TWI can allow for better planning, avoiding unexpected tyre replacements and ensuring vehicles are safe.
