Bordrin – Senior Catia designer/design engineer, chassis

Southfield, Michigan, USA

• Perform preliminary and advanced work in development of working designs by making revisions to size, shape, and arrangement of parts to create a practical design in Catia V5
• Use of Catia kinematics package for checking package clearances and designing components
• Provide layout design in developing suspension and steering designs
• Knowledge of technical characteristics of chassis products
• Must be able to work with minimal instruction and guidance to create the desired result
• Identify proper materials, tolerances, finishes, fasteners, and production methods for new designs
• Interface with engineering personnel including the chassis & vehicle dynamics departments to ensure packaging needs are identified
• Work with engineering analysis on FEA of chassis structure designs to determine the most effective and economic solution
• Interface with suppliers in the design/development phase, tool build, and into production
• Develop, release, and maintain accurate engineering documentation
• Prioritize assignments consistent with business goals and successfully implement projects on time and within budget
• Proactively inform management of project issues, delays and risks
• Generate and implement ideas to continuously improve work environment, systems, tools, processes as well as product cost and quality

Supervisory responsibility
This position does not manage direct or indirect reports

This position operates in a standard office environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

Position type/expected hours of work
This is a full-time position. Core hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 40 hours per week, dependent upon department deliverables.

No travel is required of this position

Required education and experience
• 15+ years of chassis design experience
• 5+ years Catia V5 CAD design experience
• Experience with benchmarking against competitor products
• Experience designing metal parts in multiple processes (ex: class ‘A’ steel & aluminum body stampings, press brake sheet metal, castings, extrusions, welded & riveted structural assemblies, etc)
• Experience designing plastic & composite parts in multiple processes (ex: injection molding, compression molding, spray-up, RIM, vacuum forming, etc)
• Experience with detailed 2D part/ assembly drawings, GD&T and installation diagrams
• Ability to work with other Engineering functions to reconcile conflicting designs into robust and cost effective solutions
• Demonstrated CAD (Catia v5) expertise, including DMU kinematic model creation, solid modeling, advanced parametric modeling, digital mock-up, and the ability to use published data to quickly updated designs
• Prior automotive field experience at the either OEM or supplier
• Knowledge of engineering software and systems as it pertains to suspension systems
• Experience within a Chinese automotive electric vehicle company is a plus
• Chinese language proficiency is also plus
