Roll simulator to pinpoint how and why accidents happen

S-E-A, Ltd, a worldwide forensic and product research company headquartered in Worthington, Ohio, has unveiled a unique vehicular roll simulator machine today at its expanded research facility in Plain City, Ohio.

It believes that currently, no other company in the world has a vehicular roll simulator machine that is similar to S-E-A’s model.

Revealing the cause of, or more importantly, preventing vehicular accidents and mitigating occupant injuries involves consideration of a multitude of factors. This one-of-a-kind roll simulator – which has never before been used at a test site – allows for rollover tests, occupant kinematics and restraint systems to be analyzed using repeatable and reliable multi-axis tests to pinpoint exactly what happened, or what may occur, during a vehicular accident and why.

“Our one-of-a-kind roll simulator is unrivaled by any other machine worldwide and was designed by our own S-E-A mechanical experts,” said Gary Heydinger, Ph.D.

“It enables our vehicular accident team to meticulously analyze and reconstruct complex accidents to evaluate occupant response characteristics and the protection systems of passenger vehicle compartments,” added Doug Morr, head of the biomechanics group at S-E-A.

In the past eight years, S-E-A has invested US$10 million in existing and new research facilities nationwide. This newly opened research facility in Plain City is an expansion of the Worthington research complex and was developed for the vehicular roll simulator.
