Bridgestone-shod Renault sets new Nordschleife lap record

The latest car to break a lap record on the Nordschleife is a Renault Mégane R.S. Trophy, a limited-edition model with 265PS, 360Nm and a set of UHP Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires in 235/35 R19 size.

On June 17, 2011, an example driven by Laurent Hurgon, the Renault Sport development driver, set a new lap record in the front-wheel-drive category, where cars must conform to production specifications. His lap of 8 mins 08 secs beat the time set in 2008 by a Mégane R26.R by nine seconds.

Laurent Hurgon said: “The carefully-tuned Cup chassis, the dampers, the fade-resistant brakes, the Recaro seats, the power of the engine, the ready availability of torque between 2,500 and 5,000 rpm and the car’s Bridgestone tires allowed me to make the most of the car’s enormous potential, especially into and out of the corners.”

Bridgestone has been an OE supplier to Renault in Europe since 2004, when the B250 was chosen as original equipment for the Modus.

“This prestigious new sporting partnership with Renault is a source of great pride for Bridgestone”, said Didier Schneider, vice president OE Sales, Bridgestone Europe. “The Potenza RE050A offers essential qualities that are perfectly suited to the highly sporty temperament of the Mégane R.S. Trophy. The record set at Nürburgring proves that the combination is very well matched and in perfect balance.”
